Description:
Talk by Renee Patete: Comparing Accessibility in Germany and New Zealand
Renee Patete is a member of the Goethe Society’s committee as our Inclusion Advisor and has kindly offered to speak on her experiences as a person with visual impairment visiting, travelling, and studying in Germany, in comparison with New Zealand. Renee is able to offer a unique perspective into this important area, where much remains to be achieved to optimise the participation of all in society.
Renee spent six weeks in Freiburg in 2020. She is a past Jacoby Prize winner in the Goethe Society’s Secondary Schools Oral Competitions and is currently studying Modern Languages and Communications at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington. Some of you may also know Renee from her beautiful singing voice in the Society’s Projektchor.
This will be an informal roundtable event with the opportunity to ask questions and have discussions in English and German.
You are warmly invited to attend this event on Wednesday, 1 May 2024. Feel free to pass this on to other friends and family interested in German culture, language and the interrelationships between New Zealand and the German-speaking world, as well as in issues around accessibility and inclusion more broadly.
This will be held at the Von Zedlitz Common Room 606 at Te Herenga Waka – Victoria University of Wellington, 28 Kelburn Parade, Kelburn, at 6:00 pm. Culinary contributions in the form of food and/or drinks are very welcome. Please RSVP by emailing us.
